A new glass elevator will allow all tourists, from June 2023, to reach the highest levels of the Colosseum, to fully enjoy the beauty of the Flavian amphitheater. The new lift was inaugurated at the end of a special performance by the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema, which played some songs by Hans Zimmer taken from the soundtrack of the film ‘Gladiator’. The lift was created thanks to the synergy between the Parco del Colosseo and the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema, which in 2018 was the protagonist of a special screening of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator inside the Colosseum. Actor Russel Crowe was also present at the time, who also on this occasion wanted to testify his closeness with a video message of greetings and congratulations for the initiative sent to the president of the orchestra Marco Patrignani.

“As a man who deals with music and cinema, I never thought I would personally follow the construction of a new lift at the Colosseum, from the planning stage to its inauguration. Five long years to ensure that a mighty structure of iron and crystal could give joy to millions of visitors from all over the world. It is as if it had been built with the power of emotions and dreams, which seem ethereal but are instead very powerful”, declared Patrignani. “From today the Colosseum is even more a World Heritage Site, accessible to all up to the third tier from which it is possible to admire the magnificence of an extraordinary monument, a work of the Roman world without equal in the world. Thanks to this creation, citizens and tourists will have a further opportunity to be able to enjoy, without hindrance, the easiest possible visit to the Flavian Amphitheater, in the name of a truly inclusive culture”, declared the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, who was also present at the ribbon cutting.
